The life of an aristocratic yuppie Louis Winthorpe III, the manager of the richest company on the Wall Street, changes suddenly when his bosses, the fabulously wealthy but morally bankrupt Duke brothers, make a tricky bet.
One of the brothers believes the company can be run by any person, even if it is an inveterate and uneducated rascal.
Duke brothers make a one-dollar bet and for the experiment choose an impoverished street hustler Billy Ray Valentine. They offer Valentine to head the company by replacing Winthorpe. Duke brothers do not even realize that they risk more that they could ever imagine.
