Two Prides

Diogenes was pride of his poverty and the fact that he lived in barrel. Very often he showed off as a person who does not need anything in life. Many people admired him for this and followed his life style philosophy.
Once, Diogenes came to Socrates who adored expensive things and never denied any pleasure of life. There were a lot of people who admired Socrates and followed his theory of life.
Having entered Socrates house, Diogenes said: “Standing on your expensive carpets and dressed in rags I defy your principles and override your pride”. “Yes”- answered Socrates “with your pride”
